GenCon... It's on

"Joshua Noble,
Thank you for purchasing a Four Day Badge To Gen Con Indy 2007!
Welcome to the 40th anniversary of Gen Con!"

If you... or people you know... are planning on staying here the weekend of GenCon... LET ME KNOW... that way I can make arrangements to make it as comfortable as I possibly can. The appartment is nice but it's by no means HUGE. If I got more than a few people coming, some are gonna need to bring their own bedding (sleeping bags, pillows, whatever). And if cramming into an appartment and sleeping on a floor isn't your style, take a lesson from last year and get that hotel room in advance. :P

ALSO do yourselves a favor this year and preorder badges!

Hope to see you all in August!

what the fuck

why do people INSIST on using myspace... when it is FUCKING CRAP

about once every few months i get conned into making a fucking myspace profile and it takes all day because all the site does is crash OVER AND OVER while i am editing details and settings. i dont get how myspace became some necessary evil for digital culture. and you'd think from all that fucking popup add revenue they could afford some very needed technical support. i dont think facebook has wrecked on me once, ever... EVER. why cant people just use facebook instead of emospace bullshit. i think the fact that myspace sucks so much penis is the reason ppl are emo on there to begin with. they started out normal fucking people like me and trying to use the website drove them to the brink of suicide. i know i'm almost there my damn self.

fuck myspace, fuck tom anderson, fuck internet friends that dont use facebook

also fuck people that dont say what they really mean
then say they mean what they said
when they CLEARLY do not
dont fucking lie to me, i'm not retarded
i'd rather be stabbed in the front and see it coming
than be stabbed in the back and never know why i bled
i'm gonna snap one of these days
the nice guy will be dead and you'll have to put up with this asshole
gods protect you should that ever happen

Of all the brain types, yours is the most mellow.
You tend to be in a meditative state most of the time. You don't try to think away your troubles.
Your thoughts are realistic, fresh, and honest. You truly see things as how they are.

You tend to spend a lot of time thinking about your friends, your surroundings, and your life.

On the subject of Wiis

just wanted to throw out my two cents on the console so far. it is really cool how the whole thing is set up. the console interface is called "Wii Channels" and you basically navigate the whole thing like you are channel surfing a normal TV. each channel is like a function or a game on the system. so far there are only a few channels, but more are in the works like a web browsing channel, weather channel, and newsfeed channel. right now there are channels for basic system functions like running the game of course. there are also a shopping channel to buy new channels and arcade games. there is also a picture browser so you can view and play with images on SD memory cards, which the console has a slot for.

the way the remote interacts with the system is really more amazing than i had realised. i guess the most surprising thing about it is how the remote has an internal memory. basically you use the console to design a digital avatar for yourself called a Mii. the Mii gets stored onto your remote, and any game that uses Miis will retain all your information on the remote. i am assuming that even games not using the Miis will make use of the internal memory for similar purposes. so all of your stats can go with you wherever you play at. even cooler, for you lefty's out there, is it remembers what hand you play with as well.

so far the only game i have for it is the Wii Sports game that came bundled with the console. I am thoroughly impressed with it so far. my only real gripe with that game is that it cannot be played over the wifi system, which i think is a huge mistake on nintendo's part. maybe they will release more fleshed out versions of the individual sports with support for online play at a later time. sometime today i plan on going to EB and getting some store cred for some old games i dont play anymore and hopefully i will leave with a copy of Zelda. i already called in advance, so i know they have a copy for me.

so overall, i'd say its a great new system. it isnt some graphical powerhouse, but they never claimed it would be. but i do think the remote technology will become a very large player in the industry as a whole. i dont expect to see another console launch completely mimiccing the wii. however, i do think the eventual popularity of the system will lead other companies to start exploring more avenues with their console than just tuning up the graphics; something i feel is a large problem with microsoft and sony's apparent take on gaming.

i think nintendo will prove to us with the DS and Wii that the future in gaming lies in innovative gameplay, and not flashy graphics.

FUCKING SCORE

i sat in front of target fucking 15 hours, first in line... at 7 they handed out 15 vouchers to purchase a console to a line of over 40 people. (all of which past 15 i warned would not receive a console because target asked me to the night before when they closed) it was funny how people showing up between 7 and 8, before they opened but after the vouchers were handed out, were still making a line behind us like we were making up the whole thing. one woman even ran past me into the store making a beeline for electronics... while me and my camping buddies calmly walked knowing they were getting nothing.

this is the best i have felt in a long time. not just because i have a new console, but just because of the perfection of my execution. i was first in line, i sat there the whole time, i was the hardcore of hardcore. i had a plan to get one this weekend ever since i knew the stores were moving stock on tuesday. i had a plan, i did my research, i saw it through perfectly. and now i have a wii.

Wiis

It's so hard to do my job when I'm getting Wiis in my truck. I spent the whole day thinking of ways I could get away with stealing one. Normally I don't get too nosey with the freight but it said right on the side of the box "WHITE SYSTEM W/SPORTS". Like I'm not gonna figure it out. At least this way I know exactly where they are all going. Expect to see me in front of a store this weekend... I'm fucking buying one.

the fridge did not die in vain

yesterday night my fridge died, but i couldnt call anybody about it cause the office was closed. so this morning i got up and dumped 2 very warm gallons of spoiled milk down the sink. then i called the office and reported the broken fridge. when i arrived home it had been replaced by a seemingly identical fridge, however contained inside the freezer was an ice maker. how fuckin cool is that. no more damned ice trays. one of life's few happy endings, so i wish to celebrate it. thank you old fridge... you served me well, even in your lack of operation...

you will be missed

and tomorrow, the world...

Yesterday I finally got the UVW Unwrap to work right... today I figured out how to bump map too. I wouldn't say I am a master of either but I can at least get them to work and do what I want to do. I played around with the old diglett model and tried to use bump mapping to make him appear "furry". It really isn't quite where I want it yet, but it looks a lot better than before. Just plain brown was boring on an already simple model. At least now it has some sort of texture to it... even if it isn't EXACTLY how I want it. I uploaded a render of the new diglett on my facebook album... you should check it out and tell me how it looks.
